Issue date: 21 March 2005
The Foundation for People with Learning Disabilities welcomes the Government’s green paper, Independence, Wellbeing and Choice. The paper demonstrates a commitment to a system which will empower people to take control of their own lives.
The Foundation’s Co-Director Hazel Morgan, said:
“The Department of Health obviously has good intentions, but applying this theory in practice will be difficult, especially with zero investment. Also, the desire for strategic commissioning and a focus on individual commissioning will be tricky to manage. People with learning disabilities in need of specialist support and care should not be denied it.
The Government has been working closely with people with learning disabilities and their families and carers, and this needs to be built upon if this vision is to be implemented successfully.”
