Our work on community and inclusion

Community and Inclusion
The Foundation for People with Learning Disabilties believes it is important that people with learning disabilities can take part in daily life where they live

We are working to make sure that they have interesting things to do during the day
Current projects

Community Connecting: this programme is about working with individuals and the people close to them to find out their strengths, talents and interests. It goes beyond simply helping people to be in the community and aims to make people part of their community.

Learning for Leadership : this programme will provide a comprehensive framework for participants to develop their knowledge, skills and behaviour to become innovative leaders. People with learning disabilities are increasingly taking on leadership roles and positions where they create and influence change.

Life in the Community : a project focusing on community inclusion for people with high support needs. This project looks at new approaches to day activities and community participation.

National Advisory Group on Learning Disabilities and Ethnicity : a national group which focuses on policy development, working closely with other organisations and bringing together people who are leading work in this area.

Past projects

Access for All : a project running 3 Action Learning Sets in England to improve access to Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) for children and young people with learning disabilities and mental health problems.

Deciding Together : Our publications 'Deciding Together' and 'Getting Control of My Life' describe ways that people with learning disabilities can get involved in decisions about their own lives and influence how organisations work. We are supporting some organisations to use these materials to improve the ways they involve people.

Having a good day? : a research project to find out the best ways to support people with learning disabilities to have community based day activities that are right for them. It includes examples of good practice and recommendations for the development of day services.

Spirituality : this research looked at what is important to people with learning disabilities and how services can address their religious needs.
